Apply For a Home

       The journey to owning a Habitat home begins with the submission of an application.

       In order to be eligible for selection as a Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity (“WVHFH”) Partner, an applicant must (1) have a total Adjusted Gross Income between 30% and 60% of the local median family income and (2) have lived in the Wyoming Valley for at least one year. More detailed information regarding applicant eligibility and consideration criteria can be found on the “Selection Criteria” tab of this page.

       Our Family Selection & Support Committee reviews each preliminarily qualified application based on three key criteria:

  *     Need for adequate housing that cannot be obtained through conventional means.

 *      Ability to pay a mortgage, taxes, and insurance, in addition to basic living expenses and regular home-maintenance expenses. Habitat for Humanity does not give away houses. We sell houses to partners through no-interest mortgages.

 *     Willingness and ability of the applicant (and co-applicant, if applicable) to partner with WVHFH and invest volunteer work hours equal to 200 hours for the applicant and an additional 100 hours for the co-applicant or household member of 18 years or older.

      Please note that, with your written permission, the Committee will obtain and review your credit report along with all other information provided in your application. If your application meets our guidelines and is selected to move forward in the Partner selection process, you may be asked to meet with members of our committee in your current home for an interview. All applicants will receive notice of the Committee’s decision regarding their application, regardless of outcome.
